Hidden Treasures: Neglected Cemetery Project
October 10, 2020 in Plainfield, CT, history teacher Jason Bowns welcomes a group of volunteers interested in bringing restoration to the town’s oldest cemeteries. Michael Passmore of New England Historic Cemetery Restoration, Inc. helps start the project by offering hands-on lessons in the technique of grave marker restoration.
Old Plainfield Cemetery dates back to 1710, not long after the founding of the town in 1699.
Work Days: More Treasures and New Helpers
Plainfield Grave Guardians was created by history teacher Jason Bowns as a volunteer, nonprofit service, committed to improving and restoring cemeteries in the town of Plainfield, CT. The (Young) Marines have landed, and their parents are helping as well. First selectman Kevin Cunningham and his wife Lu-ann help reveal the inscription of a stone long buried, and yet another amazing transformation takes place on a marker long covered in lichen, thanks to Michael Passmore of New England Historical Cemetery Restoration Project.
